چکیده

Integrins are the glue that maintain cell-to-cell adhesion and are found in nearly all cell types and function as heterodimeric cell surface receptors. Although not regarded as active signaling receptors in the basal state, integrins transduce signals that regulate fibrosis, angiogenesis, cellular migration, and other wound-healing processes during pathologic conditions.1,2 In this issue of Cellular and Molecular Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Ulmasov et al3 report that a synthetic peptide (CWHM-12) containing a conserved Arg-GlyAsp (RGD) integrin-recognition domain ameliorated cerulein-induced pancreatic fibrosis and pancreatic stellate cell (PSC) activation by inhibiting transforming growth factor (TGF)β activation.

Ovarian Stimulation by Exogenous Gonadotropin Decreases the Implantation Rate and Expression of Mouse Blastocysts Integrins

Background: Integrins are heterodimeric glycoprotein receptors that regulate the interaction of cells with extracellular matrix and may have a critical role in implantation. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of ovulation induction on the expression of α4, αv, β1, and β3 integrins in mouse blastocyst at the time of implantation. Methods: The ovarian stimulated and non-stimulate...

Targeting of Alpha-V Integrins Reduces Malignancy of Bladder Carcinoma

Low survival rates of metastatic cancers emphasize the need for a drug that can prevent and/or treat metastatic cancer. αv integrins are involved in essential processes for tumor growth and metastasis and targeting of αv integrins has been shown to decrease angiogenesis, tumor growth and metastasis. In this study, the role of αv integrin and its potential as a drug target in bladder cancer was ...

Inhibitors of Arg-Gly-Asp-Binding Integrins Reduce Development of Pancreatic Fibrosis in Mice

BACKGROUND & AIMS Pancreatic stellate cells (PSCs) regulate the development of chronic pancreatitis (CP) and are activated by the cytokine transforming growth factor β (TGFB). Integrins of the αv family promote TGFB signaling in mice, probably by interacting with the Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD) sequence of the TGFB latency-associated peptide, which frees TGFB to bind its cellular receptors. However, litt...

Interaction of Src and Alpha-V Integrin Regulates Fibroblast Migration and Modulates Lung Fibrosis in A Preclinical Model of Lung Fibrosis

Src kinase is known to regulate fibroblast migration. However, the contribution of integrin and Src kinase interaction to lung fibrosis has not been mechanistically investigated. Our data demonstrate that integrin alpha v (αV) recruited Src kinase and that leads to subsequent Src activation in fibroblasts plated on fibrotic matrix, osteopontin. Src interaction with integrin αV is required for i...
